A (recycled) Christmas gift from Sara Gran
Merry Christmas! As long-time readers know, I sometimes send an original story out Christmas day. Not this year! Like so many of us, I am utterly fried, overworked, etc. etc. But, in lieu of something new, here is something old: the first Christmas story I ever wrote, and still, probably, my favorite. A recycled gift, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. If you have any trouble accessing it, let me know.
Lots more news coming soon—there’s good and fun stuff going on with The Book of the Most Precious Substance, there’s new writing coming out elsewhere, and, if time cooperates (does it ever, though?), some original content coming via this newsletter. Like so many of us (again), the end of the year inspires me to reevaluate how I’m spending my time and how I’m making money and how I want to spend my days. Although, to some degree, I’m always doing that.
But this is starting to sound more like a New Year’s Day post than a Christmas letter. In the spirit of the day at hand: thank you for your kindness this year, thank you for reading this, thank you for your relentless promotion of my work on social media (which I utterly fail at myself), thank you for just being very cool in general. I hear from a lot of you, and I can safely say there are no assholes on this list, and that’s a Christmas miracle.
I hope, whether you’re alone or with your loved ones or with your most despised ones, you find something that reminds of the spirit of the day: even in our darkest days, something beautiful can be born.
Happy holidays.
